Novelty Study-Trash Book

This is the novelty study that we did for 1 and a half term. I found it challenging to embed the work that I gave put below because I have submitted it. I also found it changeling to answer the questions.

Comprehension Questions

These questions are to be completed as you read the novel.

Read the novel in sections (e.g. read chapter 1 -5), then answer the comprehension questions in your English book or on a Doc.

Part One:

Chapters 1 - 4

1. From whose perspective are the first four chapters written?

The chapters were written by  Raphael Fernandes

2. What do we know about this character from the first four chapters? Include at least five facts you’ve learned in your answer and remember to include information about his personality.

I leant that his personality is shy and that he doesn't like the police, he doesn't have a mum and dad his best friend is Guardo and he now has a big secret

3. Where is this story set? Write a descriptive sentence about it.

The story is in bahala by smokey mountain a trash site all slimy and stinky.

4. What is a ‘special’?

A special is a rubbish bag that is not split and it is from a rich area.

5. Describe what the ‘once in a lifetime’ find was.

His once in a lifetime find was a bag with a walet an id and some photos

6. Why do you not usually see police in Behala?

You don't usually did see the police because it is so far away and nothing ends up there that is value.

7. Why does Raphael not tell the police that he found the bag?

He doesn't tell the police because he thinks that is special.

8. What does Rat say the key is for? Make a prediction about what will happen next.

The key is for some lockers when they take the train and find the numbers.

Chapters 5- 6

1. Why did Gardo not think it was a good idea to go straight to Central Station with the key?  He didn't think it was a good idea because the police would know

2. Why were three dump trucks emptied in a clear patch?  They were emptied in a clear patch so they could go through faster knowing

3. Why does Gardo think it was so dumb of Raphael’s auntie to say something to the police?  Because the police would be on them

4. What do we learn about Rat from the mission to the train station lockers? Rat has probably lived there

5. What did the boys find in the locker? Make a prediction about what will happen next.  The boys found a slip that said take it to a prisoner there was also a code to a book that said the words so no one gets in trouble because it is only numbers 37,2,67,3,6

Part Two

Chapters 1- 4

1. From whose perspective is the first chapter written?

Father julars.

2. Why is it hard to get students to come to the mission school?

it is hard to get students to come to the mission school because they want to be picking trash.

3. Who was Pascal Aguila? What do we know about him?

He was a layer he got killed.

4. What were the boys using the computer for?

the boys using the computer to research hosey angelico.

5. Are the police in Trash like the police in New Zealand? Explain.

No the police are nicer here then trash because they would get sued for holding someone out the window.

6. From reading about Raphael’s experience at the police station, how would you describe the kind of person he is?

7. What was the serious crime Jose Angelico was suspected of and what happened to him?

He stole 6 million dollars from the vice president. He was killed in the police station.

8. How is Jose Angelico connected with Senator Zapanta? He is the maid to senator zapanta

Part Three

Chapters 1 - 7

1. Who is Olivia Weston? What is her connection with Behala?

Olivia works at the ministry school.

2. Why did the boys come to see Olivia?

They came to see olivea to use her money to go to the police station.

3. When Olivia is walking between the prison cages, what makes her ‘stop dead’? Why do you think she was so shocked by this site?

Because she saw little kids.

4. Why was Gabriel Olondriz put in prison?

He is in prison because he stole 6 millions

5. What is ‘seed-corn’ money?

Money to help the community

6. “In this country you pay for being stupid, just as you pay for being poor” - What does Gabriel Olondriz mean when he says this?

Chapters 8 -10

1. What is Rat’s big dream that he is saving money for?

To go to the beach to go home and buy a boat and go fishing

2. Why does Raphael feel that he is not really wanted in Behala anymore and that he should leave?

Because he is attracting the police.

3. How did Jose Angelico apparently steal 6 million dollars from Senator Zapanta?

In a fridge

4. What are all the numbers that were on the slip that was with the letter?

A book code

5. What did Olivia learn from her travels?

Money makes the world go around

Part 4

Chapters 1 - 4

1. Why do they leave Behala and where do they end up staying?

They leafe bahala because the police  were hunting them and they end up staying in a little room on the top story

2. Why does Rat go back to Behala?

Rat goes back to bahala to go and steal 25 thousand dollars for the book.

3. What does he leave behind and why?

Rat leafs behind a note to let him know that he stole it

4. “They would break every bone in all our bodies, slow and mean and loving it.” Knowing what the police would do to them, the boys carry on anyway. What does this show us about them?

This quote says that they don't care they just want the money.

5. What does the slash mean in the book code?

The slash means go back one page back.

6. Where do they find the map reference number?

On the edge of the map

7. Where does the map reference lead them to?

The map ref leads them to the cemetery where we lay

Chapters 5 - 7

1. How did Raphael, Rat and Gardo get out of the room?

Rat and gardo climbed out the window to get out of the room

2. What do the Police say to Gardo to try and get him to come out and how do the boys react?

Gurdo it’s your cousin he's sick but the other boys say it's a trap

3. What is Rat’s idea to get the police off their tails?

Rats idea to get the police of their tails was to hide with a group of helping kids

4. Why are there lots of other people heading to the cemetery?

They were at the cemetery because it is the day of the dead

5. How are the poor buried in the Navaro cemetery?

The poor were stacked in boxes about 20 high and they were called with cement

6. Who did Jose Angelico get the gravestone for and what is written on the gravestone?

He got for his son it was really for the money the head stone said seeds to harvest my child it is accomplished

7. What is Vice President Zapanta trained as?

Vice President Zapanta is trained as a loyar a

8.   What is the name of his company and why is this ironic?

The name of the company is FEED US. This is ironic because Vice President Zapanta has stolen the money that was supposed to feed them.

9.  Why did Zapanta gain notoriety three years ago?

Zapanta gained notoriety when he asked Police to clear squatters so that he could build a cinema and mall.

10. How much money are the papers reporting was stolen from Zapanta?

The papers are reporting that he has stolen TEN million dollars.

11.  What do these newspaper articles tell us about the public’s opinion of Zapanta?

The public do believe that Zapanta stole the money, but they are frightened of him and what he could do to them if they are caught sharing such thoughts.
